About MPO

What does MPO do?

MPO is the music producers' management organization that manages the rights of music producers. We do this by obtaining remuneration on behalf of music producers and by ensuring that royalties are paid to music producers as quickly as possible and on the right basis.

MPO collects and pays remuneration to rights holders based on MPO's direct agreements with music rights holders. MPO also administers and disburses remuneration, which we as a member organization receive via agreements in Copydan on retransmission of radio and TV channels and use of producer rights in teaching and in DR's archive materials. We also handle the administration and distribution of the collective remuneration received as compensation for legal private copying. This is done through a support scheme from which all Danish music producers can apply for funds.

At the MPO, we always take into account the current reality and work hard to develop and improve distribution principles and systems for processing the large amounts of data that form the basis for the distribution of royalties. In particular, our platform mit.MPO, where music producers can indicate which repertoire they have the rights to, helps to ensure that the MPO distributes the rights funds correctly, efficiently and transparently.

MPO is approved by the Ministry of Culture in accordance with section 50(4) of the Danish Copyright Act, cf. section 50(2).

Other uses of music

Music on the radio

Radio stations that want to broadcast music must make an agreement with the performers' and music producers' union Gramex.

Music in TV productions

Producers who create content for TV must make individual agreements with music producers about the use of music. However, this does not apply to DR's and TV 2's self-produced material.

Music in public spaces

To use music in the local cafe, workplace and public places, you need to contact Koda, who, in collaboration with Gramex, makes agreements on behalf of music producers.

Music usage agreements

MPO works actively with licensing. Because if it is easy to enter into agreements for the use of music, the music reaches more people. This creates value for music-loving Danes, music services and producers. Therefore, MPO's licensing work is constantly exploring new opportunities to enter into collective agreements that make sense for the downstream sector and at the same time ensure that music producers receive fair payment for the use of their rights.

In addition to a licensing agreement with the MPO, an agreement with Koda will typically be required to cover the composers' and songwriters' rights to the desired music.

Our values

We are transparent

As a management organization, we prioritize transparency in everything we do. We want to make it easy to understand the cash flows that flow through the association.

We listen

It is important for us to engage in dialog with rights holders, members and partners, as together we create a strong and effective association.

We are ambitious

We focus on efficiency and optimization to ensure the greatest possible value for our rights holders. We continuously work to improve our internal processes so that we can best manage our members' interests.

We are development-oriented

We are exploring new powerful digital tools to increase music producers' revenue streams, ease the claims process, improve the speed and accuracy of distributions, and minimize administrative costs.
